How It Works

Simple fountains work by pumping water held in a reservoir up through some simple plumbing and then cascading down the fountain feature of your choice. That water flows back into the reservoir to re-circulate again. There are six fountain features to choose from to suit your style.

Beneath the urn are decorative river pebbles and piping that connects to an AquaBasin® Mini, which houses the pump. The base of the diagram represents the earth, indicating the underground placement of the AquaBasin and pump for recirculating water.

Upgrades

Fire and Lights!

…and a few other things.

There are six upgrades you can add to your simple fountain to take it to the next level.

A nighttime view of a slate stacked sphere fountain illuminated by a vibrant green light, creating a mesmerizing water display. The light accentuates the water's gentle cascade over the textured stone surface, while the surrounding darkness adds to the fountain's dramatic effect. The soft ambient lighting in the garden hints at the presence of surrounding plants, creating a tranquil and enchanting atmosphere in the outdoor space.

Lights

Add a whole new dimension to your fountain with lights. There are several options to choose from. You can add a ring of light to the top of almost every fountain feature lighting up the ‘bubble” effect making it almost seem like a torch. Uplights complete the picture highlighting the silver raindrops that spill from your backyard fountain.

Flames dance among the lava rocks within the burnished metal ring, providing a warm, flickering light that contrasts with the dark, textured stone. This fusion of fire and water elements creates a dramatic visual effect, adding an inviting ambiance to the evening garden setting.

Fire

Get the next level of amazing from your fountain with a fire add-on kit. Adding fire can be as easy as dropping in a paraffin burner (you can even have citronella to keep the bugs at bay) or as dramatic as the propane ring pictured here.

An image of a Hudson water fill valve, shown disassembled with its black mounting bracket and gray valve body separated. The bracket features an adjustable arm and a circular holder, while the valve body shows the water inlet and float adjustment mechanism. This device is used to automatically add water to a pond or fountain when the water level drops, ensuring a consistent water level for optimal function.

Auto-fill

Set your mind at ease with an auto-filler. One of the few maintenance chores associated with a Simple Fountain is ensuring the reservoir is topped up so your pump doesn’t run dry. The auto-filler takes care of this automatically!

A high-performance Aquascape pump for water features, displayed alongside its electronic control panel. The sturdy black pump is designed for durability, with a large handle for easy transport and fittings for secure installation. The control panel features a digital display and buttons for adjusting the flow settings, enabling precise control over water movement for ponds, fountains, or waterfalls.

Pump Upgrade

Get even more excitement from your fountain with a pump upgrade. If your fountain is in your front yard or you want to hear it from inside your house a pump upgrade is a good choice. Pump upgrades also include a “bib-liner” to help catch the increased splash they create.

Aquascape Automatic Dosing System for Fountains packaging and product displayed. The product includes a black dosing unit with a digital control panel on the lid and a connector cord. Beside it is a package of fountain treatment solution labeled 'Prevent,' designed to maintain clear and clean fountain water. The system's packaging provides additional information and shows an image of the product in use, promoting a simple solution for fountain maintenance.

Auto-Doser

Maintain the best water quality automatically! Fountains are typically low maintenance installs, but for fountains in full sun or on well water, sometimes water treatments are necessary to avoid poor water quality. The auto-doser takes care of adding whatever treatments you need.

An Aquascape IonGen System G2 displayed with its components neatly arranged on a white background. The set includes a digital control panel with an LCD display, copper test kit, IonGen G2 probe, a probe holder, and various connectors and cables. This system is designed to electronically release ions into the water, helping to control algae growth in ponds or fountains without the use of chemicals.

Ion-Gen

Say goodbye to string algae all while being 100% safe for plants, animals and fish. Some fountains can develop string algae. If you have pets or birds that drink from your fountain you may not want to use the traditional liquid treatments the auto-doser provides. The Ion Gen solves your algae issues and is safe for pets and wildlife.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Ideally yes, but it isn’t necessary. Some water features require constant filtration, but not a simple fountain. We recommend you run it 24/7 to avoid mosquitos finding your reservoir an attractive place to lay their eggs. Other considerations can be if wildlife comes to rely on your fountain as a source of fresh clean water you may want to keep it running 24/7.

No. Mosquitos prefer stagnant water to lay their eggs. This is one reason we recommend leaving your pump on 24/7 to break the surface tension of the water and discourage mosquitos.

No. A simple fountain recirculates water held in the reservoir.

Due to evaporation and some over-splash your feature will need periodic water top ups. It is possible to connect your feature to an automatic fill valve to elliminate this chore and ensure your reservoir never runs dry.

Homeowners have to provide their own power for us to plug the pump and/or lights into.

Ideally, you hire an electrician to install a GFI waterproofed plug near the feature. While you are waiting for an electrician we can use a heavy-duty (12-14awg) outdoor extension cord.

It is always best to schedule the electrician for after the water feature has been installed.

For fountains with a reservoir of less than 500g:

You can leave water in the reservoir.

Remove the pump and drain any excess water. Storage in dry frost-free location for winter.

Either cover your fountain feature with a winter tarp or remove it from the basin and store it in a frost-free location.

For fountains with a reservoir of over 500g:

You can leave the feature running through the winter. If it freezes keep a close eye on the reservoir. As the ice locks up on the feature it will lower the reservoir. That ice will eventually insulate the running water underneath it and it will continue to flow. A frozen fountain can be an amazing sight by itself, just keep an eye on the reservoir level.

Almost none!

Make sure the reservoir is topped up periodically and winterize the feature at the end of the summer.

Simple Fountains create almost no disruption to your property.

The excavated soil will need to be relocated, but it is usually easy to incorporate into the existing landscaping.

Heavy machinery is not required so there should be no need for lawn or garden repairs. Sometimes an irrigation line may conflict with the installation and either you have your irrigation company service it afterwards are we can repair simple reroutes or fixes.

Simple fountains have no water filtration. If you find algae build-up or if it will be in full sun all day, we recommend installing an auto-doser or IonGen. This can help keep algae growth in check.

Absolutely.  Adding simple fountains is an excellent way to add another dimension of interest to an existing water feature.
