When this homeowner lost her husband, she found herself needing a solution for the steep slope in her backyard that was rapidly eroding—especially because her late husband had routed the washing machine’s drain water onto the hillside. Unsure how to fix the issue and eager for her teenage son to learn landscaping skills, she reached out to us for guidance.

What She Wanted

A natural, cost-effective way to control erosion while still relying on the existing washing machine drain setup.
A visually appealing backyard that could attract potential homebuyers.
A hands-on learning opportunity for her son, who was interested in trying out landscaping work for the summer.

Mentorship with a Twist: We involved her son in the planning and material staging. While he learned the basics of landscape construction, he ultimately decided it wasn’t for him. He felt work such as lawn mowing and bed maintenance was a better fit for his summer employment.
